Staff Contact
GMA Position: Monitoring
GMA Summary

This bill proposes changes to Georgia’s laws governing pawnbrokers, specifically targeting the practice of accepting vehicle titles as collateral. The bill prohibits pawnbrokers from accepting a motor vehicle certificate of title in pawn transactions, which previously allowed them to gain control over a vehicle without physically possessing it.

Additionally, the bill removes certain fees that are currently charged in connection with registering liens on vehicle titles and repossession of vehicles by pawnbrokers.
